What is the definition of Restaurant?

This note is an exploration of this struggle with the attempt to have a definition to refer to when we say Restaurant.

Our Definition (requirements) of a Restaurant

• provide food (and drink)
  • though drink is not required and food is
  • can be any food (any type: cuisine, course, meal)
  • can be any amount of variety
    • one item
    • or countless
• food (and drink) can be eaten on premise or off
• food (and drink) can be delivered, picked-up
• food (and drink) can be catered to residence
• food (and drink) can be mobile (for example: Food Truck)
• the establishments can offer groceries but that can not be the only way they provide food
  • so, in other words, a grocer that does not serve food, can not be a restaurant
